Repair Cafe

Our Repair Cafe is a community event where skilled volunteers are available to advise and repair broken or damaged household items. People are also invited to learn how to fix their own broken items alongside the repairers, instead of throwing them away. The Repair Cafe aims to reduce waste going to landfill, reduce Arnside’s carbon footprint and encourage repair skills.

We meet monthly, usually on the last Monday of the Month at Arnside Educational Institute, Church Hill. Refreshments are provided by Arnside Fair Trade Cafe. We currently have 20 volunteers who can repair a range of items including small electricals, clothing, textiles, clocks, ceramics, toys, jewellery, mechanical and wooden items. All electrical items are PAT tested after repair. Volunteers from the charity AbilityNet are also available help with software problems on laptops, phones and tablets such as memory, backing up photos or speeding up a slow computer.

KingSharp attends in a mobile unit, every 3 months, to sharpen blunt knives, scissors and tools to lengthen their life and reduce waste.

We ask for a small cash donation to help with running costs and if small parts, such as zips, are needed you may be asked to bring these along, or pay for batteries, bulbs and other replacement parts needed for any repair.

Please bring along your items or drop in and find out more about what we do and have some refreshments in the Fair Trade Cafe. Items do not need to be booked in, but it is useful to check that we have a suitable repairer by messaging the Arnside Repair Cafe Facebook page or contacting arnsiderepaircafe@gmail.com.
