JOIN US FOR A FREE FUN-FILLED FAMILY DAY!
Everyone is welcome to Arnside’s Apple Day 2026 on Saturday Sept 19th 11-3pm.
Our Apple Day is a celebration of Arnside’s long history of orchards and fruit growing and how apples can be a tasty and sustainable local source of food in the future.
Events will centre around Ashmeadow orchards and woodland and the WI. We will have Morris Dancing on the promenade. Bring a picnic if you like.
There will be apple pressing with local legend Eddie Albert. Eddie will be pressing his own apples and the cups of the juice will be available for a small contribution.
Everything is FREE, donations are welcome for food, apple juice and guided walks.
We look forward to welcoming the children. There will be craft activities, a fire pit for apple roasting, face painting, storytelling and some gentle music.
There will be a few stalls in the WI. Apple themed food and drink will be available, also a ‘FREE PLANT - swap or not’ outside in the WI garden.
There will be an information stall in the orchard with leaflets about Ashmeadow and the Barnes Trust.
Also, there will be historical walks led by Barnes trustees. We will ask people to sign up to these so we can limit the numbers if necessary.
We will be able to give advice on pruning and orchard management
Signs on the trees will indicate which apples are ready to pick. Bring a bag if you would like to take some apples home.
Arnside Apple Day is being organized by the National Landscape, Sustainable Arnside and The Barnes Trust with a grant provided from the Landscape trust.
We will post updates to the programme here closer to the day so watch this space!

In conjunction with the Apple Day, at the WI Village Hall bring, swap or obtain seeds and plants...
It’s time for gardeners to start preparing gardens for the colder seasons by splitting plants and collecting seeds.
Bring to the WI and Village Hall on the morning of the 19th of September.
It’s a chance for new gardeners to try out some plants and for experienced gardeners to offload unwanted items.
The emphasis is on everything being FREE but you could give a donation if you wanted. Jams and pickles would be gratefully received.
See you on the day but email at sustainablearnside@gmail.com if you have any questions.
